Tell us about yourself.
I’m from London, Camden I currently live here. I’m 3rd generation London Irish. I studied at Central Saint Martins school of art.
What do you like to shoot?
I like to shoot people mostly. My favorite subject is portraiture. But honestly I like to shoot photos of everything and anything my camera is always around my neck, always. Don Mccullin ‘If you don’t carry a camera you aren’t a photographer’.
What camera do you use?
Hate this question, I’ll answer it but it isn’t what photography is about. Get a camera and shoot with it. It’s not the camera it’s your eye and the relationship you have with the subject. I get asked this question on my instagram, so so so so much. I’m not a film nazi, digital is great aswell. I shoot with a Konica hexar af, Ricoh GR, disposable cameras, and anything else I can get my hands on.
What would you say the main narrative behind your images are?
The main narrative behind my images is just my life. As cheesy as it is. My photos are an ode to the great people I’m surrounded by, people that give me hope and happiness in a sea of shit. I love exploring youth, outsiders in society, artists. My current project is about the effect that housing, job loss, lack of mental health help had on the young punks in the 70’s which led them to sqautting and heroin. Been photographing them for a while but I’ve got a bit lost in what I’m trying to say but at the moment I just really like these people I find them interesting they’ve been all my favorite old anarcho bands.
What drives you as a photographer?
At the moment the only thing driving me as a photographer is how much I enjoy it and it’s so theraputic. It’s the funnest thing ever. It influences all my other projects that aren’t photography based. I think photography is in such a weird place in history anyway so I try and not think about the context of my work in the medium of photography or I get incredibly depressed and don’t do it. It’s fun, it’s theraputic, it’s a way of feeling good about humans, It’s a way of exploring humanity and trying to justify your existence.
“I felt like I managed to actually capture beauty and love. Which is something I’m pretty desperate to capture all the time. I’m kind of sick of photography exploring the horrors of humanity it’s been done and said.”
Which photo in your gallery is your favourite, why is that?
My favorite photo I’ve ever taken is a black and white portrait of both of my friends holding each other. We were all fucked and they were just about to sleep together and I had my camera around my neck like I always do and snapped away. I felt like I managed to actually capture beauty and love. Which is something I’m pretty desperate to capture all the time. I’m kind of sick of photography exploring the horrors of humanity it’s been done and said. It’s better for my brain to try and find something beautiful about life and capture that! I don’t know if I nailed it, I’m thinking about the next photo!
Anything we can look forward to?
Yeah! I’m doing a colab with illustrator Kyle Platts an american book publisher is interested. We are gonna mix his illustrations and my photos. I’m stoked for that because I love his work. I’m also putting a new risograph zine together. I’m also getting a studio together, getting a magazine together. Soon hopefully it’s all in the works.
Any hairy situations whilst being a photographer?
Oh god, so many man. I’ve been chased, swung at, threatened to be beaten up if i’m ever seen again. I was taking photos of this flower pot outside a guys house and got threatened by this massive geez. I’m not even a confrontational photographer, at all. I’m not running up to people and snapping them without permission. People just wanna fight. Just the shit show that is the human race I guess.
Out of all the projects you have been apart of, which has been your favourite?
Easily working for Obey! It’s been so great. It’s given me permission into so many different types of enviroments and I’ve managed to meet some of my favorite artists. Obey forever.
Any last words?
It’s the election today if you voted tory you’re a prick.
